This song integrates elements of original translation inspired by the poem "I Am Listening To Istanbul" (Istanbul'u Dinliyorum) by the Turkish poet Orhan Veli Kanık (1914-1950). Orhan Veli was one of the founders of the "Garip" movement (meaning 'strange' or 'peculiar')--Turkey's free-verse movement which focused less on formalism and more on everyday pleasures.
